Your friends would describe you as the caring one, but would they say you’re strong?

When most people think about a caring person, they associate them with a soft and gentle personality.

This may or may not be true about you, but one thing you definitely are is strong.

In fact, your caring soul is what gives you such fierce strength, even if it is hidden in plain sight.

Others may not see it and you may not even see it yourself, but because you care, you are able to do things that nobody else could do.

You Won’t Stand Idly By And Watch Someone Suffer

Suffering comes in many different forms and, whether we like it or not, the world is full of it.

While other people can turn a blind eye to it and act like it doesn’t exist, when you see someone suffer, a fire ignites within you and gives you the determination to do something about it.

Your willingness to help can come in many different forms, but you will try to contribute to the easing of that person’s suffering in any way you can – no matter how big or small the gesture is.

You’d Sacrifice Something To Help Another

We live in an uncertain world, and one of the ways that people express this is by holding on tight to anything and everything they own.

Whether it’s monetary wealth, possessions, or even their own time, some people just aren’t willing to part with what they have.

They typically act this way out of fear – a fear that they may someday need or rely on these and other things.

But you, the caring person, are not only happy to sacrifice something if it can help another, you often seek out opportunities to do so.

You will look for good causes and donate your time, energy, money or possessions to them.

You, too, understand the uncertainty of the world we live in, but you are strong enough to look past your own needs to those of others.

You know that whatever tomorrow brings, there is certainty in your ability to help others today.

Because you care…

You Treat Others How You’d Wish To Be Treated

Our society has too much contempt and too little respect for our fellow man.

We are quick to blame others and we tend to look out for number one.

All of this manifests itself in the neglectful treatment of others.

You, on the other hand, tend to see the good in everybody you meet.

You have the courage to accept them as they are – the good and the bad – and treat them with love.

You appreciate that we all have flaws and that you wouldn’t wish anyone to treat you badly because of yours.

You know that we have all faced – and will continue to face – struggles in our lives.

You recognize that you are blessed to live a relatively comfortable life and don’t deny the rights of anyone looking to improve theirs.

You Will Stand Up To Abuses Of Power

One of your major annoyances is seeing people or institutions with power abuse their positions.

You have the strength to stand shoulder to shoulder with like-minded people – and those over which the power is being held – to fight for what you feel is right.

You are prepared to organize petitions, go on marches, and even reach out to other people of influence to help boost the cause.

This often goes hand in hand with sacrificing your time, your money, your freedom, and even your life in rare cases.

You Take Action When Others Won’t

When it comes to the wider problems that society faces, the majority of people are extremely passive in nature.

Most don’t want to understand the issues better, let alone do something about them.

But that’s not you.

Whether it’s trying to reduce your carbon footprint or supporting local businesses, you are proactive in helping solve a problem.

You find the knowledge that you are doing right by society energizing and this empowers you to take a stand when few others feel the need.

Because you care…

You Are Not Easily Led Astray

There is real strength in your morals and convictions and this prevents you from being swayed by the words or actions or another.

In other words, you can’t be easily pushed off course when you set your mind to something.

The reasons are clear: you care about your integrity and you care passionately about those causes close to your heart.

While some may regard this as stubbornness, it is actually just your ardent belief in doing the right thing.

Others might crumble to peer pressure or act as sheep that follow the flock, but you are willing to swim against the tide if necessary in order to do what you believe in.

Because you care…

You Confront Your Friends When They Need It

As I spoke about in my article on the signs of a truly great friendship, there are times when you may notice someone close to you acting in a way that is detrimental to their well-being.

But, as a caring individual, you have the strength and courage to confront them about their self-destructive behavior.

You understand that it may be hard for them to hear, and you may bear the brunt of their resentment temporarily, but you will not stand by and watch them harm themselves.

Many people don’t wish to embed themselves in the troubles of others in this way; they would prefer to watch a friend suffer or simply distance themselves from the problem.

This simply isn’t an option for you.

Because you care…

You Will Let Others See Your Emotions

I’ve said it before, but it is worth repeating here: crying is not a sign of weakness and neither is asking for help.

Just as you show care and love for others, you try to show care and love for yourself.

Part of this is the understanding that there are people out there like you who will come to your aid when you are feeling blue.

Others often try to bottle up their emotions for fear of appearing weak, but true strength actually lies in being able to show the world when you are struggling.

It facilitates healing and it means you don’t have to face things alone.

The Conscious Rethink: if you can relate to some, or all, of these points, then you have more strength than you ever could have imagined.

You have a strength in character that allows you to lower your guard and let others in; you have the strength to stand up for what you believe is right; and you have the strength to see things through to the end.

Now that you know this, don’t ever forget it.
